The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is the federal agency responsible for enforcing federal laws that prohibit employment discrimination, including:
- Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
- Title VII of the Civil Rights Act
- Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA)
- Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA)
To file a lawsuit under these federal laws, you generally must first file a charge with the EEOC. Time limits apply: typically 180 or 300 days from the discriminatory act, depending on your state.
