Modified Work Schedule

Changing when or how long an employee works as a reasonable accommodation.

A modified work schedule is a reasonable accommodation that changes an employee's standard work hours. This can include:

  • Flexible start and end times
  • Part-time work
  • Different break schedules
  • Periodic leave for medical appointments
  • Working four 10-hour days instead of five 8-hour days
  • Adjusted schedule around medical treatments

When it may be required: - Medical appointments or treatments during work hours - Medication side effects that affect morning alertness - Conditions that cause fatigue requiring rest periods - Mental health conditions benefiting from consistent schedules

An employer can deny a modified schedule only if it causes undue hardship or if the specific schedule requested is essential to the job (like shift work that can't be changed).
