Job Restructuring
Modifying job duties by redistributing marginal functions or altering when/how tasks are performed.
Job restructuring is a form of reasonable accommodation that involves modifying a position by:
- Reallocating or redistributing marginal job functions
- Altering when and/or how an essential function is performed
- Breaking down a task into smaller components
Examples include: - Reassigning the occasional filing duty to another employee - Allowing an employee to sit instead of stand while performing tasks - Changing the sequence of tasks to reduce fatigue - Splitting one full-time position into two part-time positions
Important: Job restructuring does not require eliminating essential functions. An employer can restructure marginal duties but not core job responsibilities.
